Dwarka is one of the…
Nageshwar Jyotirlinga · Bet Dwarka · Rukmini Devi Temple — After early darshan at Dwarkadhish and breakfast, drive about 17 km to Nageshwar Jyotirlinga, known for its large seated Shiva statue. Continue to Gopi Talav and then across the Sudarshan Setu bridge (opened in 2024) to Bet Dwarka, which tradition holds was Krishna's residence; the Bet Dwarka temple closes for a few hours around midday, so we time the visit for the morning or late afternoon. On…
Dwarka to Somnath via Porbandar · Evening aarti — After breakfast, drive about 235 km to Somnath along the coast (about 5 hours with stops). At Porbandar, visit Kirti Mandir, the house where Mahatma Gandhi was born, and Sudama Mandir, dedicated to Krishna's childhood friend. Reach Somnath by late afternoon for the evening aarti, usually around 7 pm, and the light-and-sound show about the temple's history (show tickets extra).
Somnath darshan · Triveni Sangam · Bhalka Tirth — Have early morning darshan at Somnath, the first of the twelve Jyotirlingas, rebuilt many times through history and restored after 1947 by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel; phones, cameras and bags are usually not allowed inside, and lockers are available. Good to know
Phones, cameras and bags are usually not allowed inside Dwarkadhish and Somnath temples. Both have locker or cloakroom counters near the entry.
Gujarat is a dry state, and the temple towns are largely vegetarian. Gujarati thali restaurants and Udupi-style places are easy to find in Dwarka and Somnath.
Dwarkadhish and Bet Dwarka temples close for a few hours in the afternoon. We plan the day around the morning and evening darshan times.
Somnath's evening aarti is usually around 7 pm, and the light-and-sound show follows. Arrive early on weekends and Mondays in Shravan.
October–March is pleasant (20–30 °C). April–June is hot, and the coast is windy and humid in the monsoon (July–September).
Questions travellers ask
Do we still need a boat to Bet Dwarka?
No. Since the Sudarshan Setu cable-stayed bridge opened in 2024, Bet Dwarka is reached by road from Okha. The old boats still run but are not needed.
Can we add the Statue of Unity or Gir?
Yes. Gir National Park (Sasan Gir) is about 45 km from Somnath and needs one extra night for a lion safari, which must be booked online. The Statue of Unity is far (about 500 km) and needs two extra days.
Is Nageshwar the Jyotirlinga or is it in Uttarakhand?
There are different traditions. Many pilgrims, and the Gujarat temple trust, regard Nageshwar near Dwarka as the Nageshwar Jyotirlinga; some traditions place it at Jageshwar in Uttarakhand or at Aundha in Maharashtra.
Can we start from Ahmedabad?
Yes. Ahmedabad to Dwarka is about 440 km (8 hours), so it adds a long day or an extra night. We suggest flying into Rajkot or Jamnagar, which is about 140 km from Dwarka.
