Day-by-day itinerary
Arrive Srinagar · Registration check — Our driver meets you at Srinagar airport and takes you to your hotel. We check that every pilgrim has the yatra registration, the RFID card (issued at designated centres after registration) and the Compulsory Health Certificate, because without them you cannot go beyond the base camp. In the evening you can take a Shikara ride on Dal Lake (optional, paid locally). Rest well and drink plenty of…
Srinagar to Sonamarg — After breakfast, drive about 80 km to Sonamarg along the Sindh river (2.5–3 hours; yatra convoys and security checks can add time). Check in and rest to get used to the altitude of about 2,700 m. Our team confirms your helicopter reporting time for tomorrow and the documents to carry.
Helicopter to Panchtarni · Holy Cave darshan · Return to Sonamarg — Leave very early for the Neelgrath helipad near Baltal (about 15 km, 30 minutes) and report at the time on your ticket. The flight to Panchtarni takes about 10 minutes; from there the Holy Cave is about 6 km on a steep mountain path (3–4 hours), on foot, by pony or by palki, all paid locally. After darshan of the ice lingam, which forms naturally each year and is worshipped as Lord Shiva, return…
Spare day · Thajiwas glacier · Drive to Srinagar — This day is kept free in case the yatra moves because of weather or helicopter delays. If your darshan is done, you can visit Thajiwas glacier near Sonamarg in the morning (pony or local vehicle paid locally) before driving about 80 km back to Srinagar (2.5–3 hours). Evening free.
Departure from Srinagar — After breakfast, we drop you at Srinagar airport. Security at the airport is strict and there are checks at the entry road, so please reach about 2.5–3 hours before your flight.

Good to know
The yatra runs only on dates announced each year by the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, usually from early July to Raksha Bandhan in August. Registration usually opens in March–April through the official portal and designated bank branches.
Every pilgrim needs a Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC) from a doctor or hospital authorised by the state, issued within the period the Board specifies. In recent years the Board has allowed only pilgrims aged 13–70, and has not allowed women more than six weeks pregnant.
Helicopter seats are few and are sold only through the official channel named by the Shrine Board each year. In some years services have been suspended or restricted for security reasons, so confirm before booking flights.
The Holy Cave is at about 3,888 m. Walk slowly, drink water, avoid alcohol and smoking, and stop at the medical camps if you feel breathless, dizzy or have chest pain. Carry your regular medicines.
Weather changes fast: pack thermal layers, a waterproof jacket, gloves, a woollen cap, waterproof shoes with grip and a small torch. Carry only a light day bag; phones often have no signal beyond Baltal (postpaid connections work best in J&K).
The yatra can be suspended for hours or days because of rain, landslides or security. Keep flexible return flights and accept that plans may change at short notice.
Questions travellers ask
Is the helicopter ticket included?
No. Seats are limited and are booked in each pilgrim's name through the official channel named by the Shrine Board for that year, after registration. We help with the paperwork, but the fare is paid separately and availability is not guaranteed. If seats are not available, the alternative is the Baltal route on foot or pony (about 14 km one way).
Who can go on the Amarnath Yatra?
In recent years the Shrine Board has allowed pilgrims aged 13 to 70 who have a valid Compulsory Health Certificate and registration. Women more than six weeks pregnant have not been allowed. Check the rules for the year you travel.
How hard is the walk from Panchtarni?
It is about 6 km each way on a narrow mountain path with steep sections at over 3,500 m. Most fit adults take 3–4 hours up. Ponies and palkis are available at fixed rates set by the authorities.
What happens if the yatra is stopped because of weather?
The authorities sometimes halt the yatra for safety. That is why day 4 is kept spare. If delays go beyond that, extra nights and car days are charged at actuals, and we help you change flights.
Can we do Vaishno Devi on the same trip?
Yes. Katra is about 250 km (7–8 hours) from Srinagar by road, or you can fly via Jammu. See our Vaishno Devi Yatra and ask us to combine them.
