A 4-day private trip from Kozhikode (Calicut) to Wayanad, a green upland district of forests, spice and coffee plantations and tribal villages. You stay three nights near Kalpetta and see the Banasura Sagar dam, Pookode Lake, the Edakkal Caves with their prehistoric rock carvings, and the Thirunelli temple area, with an optional jeep safari in the wildlife sanctuary. It is a slow-paced nature trip that works well for families.

Wayanad to Kozhikode · departure — After breakfast, check out and drive down the ghat to Kozhikode (about 75–90 km, 2.5–3 hours; allow extra time, as the ghat can be slow with traffic). If time allows, stop at Kozhikode beach or the SM Street market for halwa and banana chips before we drop you at the airport or railway station. A flight or train after about 2 pm is comfortable.

Visa & entry
No visa needed. Carry a government photo ID (Aadhaar, passport, driving licence or voter ID) for every traveller, because hotels ask for it at check-in.
Good to know
Wayanad is pleasant all year (about 18–29 °C) and cooler at night. Carry a light jacket and rain gear outside the dry months.
Edakkal Caves involve a steep climb, have a daily visitor cap and are usually closed on Mondays. Skip them with elderly parents or small children.
Wildlife safaris (Tholpetty, Muthanga) have limited permits and sometimes close in the dry season or for fire risk; they are never guaranteed.
Some places near Meppadi and Chooralmala were affected by the 2024 landslides and may still be restricted. We plan around current closures.
Kerala temples usually require traditional dress: men in mundu (dhoti) without shirts, women in saree or salwar.
The Thamarassery ghat can have traffic jams at weekends. Allow extra time on Day 4.
Questions travellers ask
Is Wayanad safe to visit after the 2024 landslides?
Yes. The main tourist areas around Kalpetta, Vythiri, Sulthan Bathery and Mananthavady are open. A few spots near the affected area may be restricted, and we keep the plan to open places.
Is the wildlife safari included?
No. It is optional, paid locally and depends on permits and season. We plan Day 3 so you can try for an early slot.
Can we add Ooty or Coorg?
Yes. Ooty is about 3.5 hours from Wayanad and Coorg about 3 hours. Adding either needs one or two more nights; ask us.
Does the price include flights?
No. The trip starts and ends in Kozhikode. We can book flights or trains from Vijayawada or Hyderabad separately.
