Day-by-day itinerary
Arrive Kochi · drive up to Munnar — Your chauffeur meets you at Cochin International Airport and drives you to Munnar in a private Innova Crysta (about 110 km, 4–4.5 hours). On the way, stop at the Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls, which are fullest after the monsoon. The last part of the road climbs through tea estates and cardamom hills. Check in at your hotel and spend the evening at leisure.
Munnar · tea estate walk and Eravikulam — Start early at Eravikulam National Park (Rajamalai) to see the Nilgiri tahr; the park usually closes for the calving season around February–March, and entry and park bus tickets are paid on the spot. Munnar to Kumarakom · lake resort on Vembanad — After breakfast, drive down from the hills to Kumarakom (about 150 km, 4.5–5 hours) on the shore of Vembanad Lake, Kerala's largest lake. Check in at your lake resort and spend the evening by the water or the pool. Dinner is at your own choice and cost.
Kumarakom at leisure · birds, canals and spa — A free day at the resort. If you enjoy birds, take an early-morning walk in Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary nearby (ticket paid locally; best from November to February). Later you can take a country-boat ride through the village canals or book an Ayurvedic treatment at the resort spa (both optional, at extra cost). The rest of the day is for the pool and the lake view.
Private premium houseboat on the backwaters — After breakfast and check-out, board your private one-bedroom premium houseboat at Kumarakom around noon. Lunch is served on board as the boat cruises across Vembanad Lake and into the palm-lined canals and paddy fields towards Alleppey. Houseboats stop cruising and anchor for the night around sunset, as local rules require. Dinner is cooked by the crew on board.
Departure from Kochi airport — Have breakfast on board. The houseboat checks out at about 9 am, and your chauffeur drives you to Cochin International Airport (about 80–90 km, 2–2.5 hours). For an early-afternoon flight, leave by 9:30 am.

Visa & entry
No visa needed. Carry a government photo ID (Aadhaar, passport, driving licence or voter ID) for every traveller; hotels and the houseboat ask for it at check-in.
Good to know
Munnar is cool all year (often 12–20 °C in winter), so pack a light jacket. Kumarakom and the backwaters are warm and humid.
Stays at Blanket Hotel & Spa in Munnar, a pool villa at Kumarakom Lake Resort or a luxury houseboat are available as an upgrade on request.
The Kochi–Munnar and Munnar–Kumarakom roads are winding hill roads. Carry motion-sickness tablets if anyone needs them.
Eravikulam National Park usually closes for some weeks around February–March during the Nilgiri tahr calving season.
Houseboats must anchor at sunset under local rules, so most of the cruising happens between noon and 5:30 pm.
Hotel names are 'or similar'. If a resort is full on your dates, we offer a comparable 5★ property before you pay.
Questions travellers ask
Is the houseboat private?
Yes. It is a one-bedroom premium houseboat only for the two of you, with its own crew and cook. Larger families get a boat with more bedrooms at a different price.
Can we upgrade to a villa with a private pool?
Yes. Heritage pool villas at Kumarakom Lake Resort can be booked as an upgrade; we will quote the difference for your dates.
Why no Thekkady on this trip?
This trip keeps hotel changes to a minimum for a relaxed pace. Thekkady can be added as one extra night between Munnar and Kumarakom on request.
Can we get vegetarian or Telugu-style food?
Yes. Both hotels serve South and North Indian vegetarian food, and the houseboat cook will adjust spice levels if you tell us when booking.
Does the price include flights?
No. The trip starts and ends at Kochi airport. We can quote flights from Vijayawada or Hyderabad separately.
