Day-by-day itinerary
Arrive Guwahati · Drive to Shillong via Umiam Lake — Our driver meets you at Guwahati airport or railway station and drives you to Shillong (about 100 km, 3–3.5 hours). On the way, stop at the Umiam Lake viewpoint, a large reservoir surrounded by pine-covered hills. Check in at your hotel and spend the evening walking around Police Bazaar, Shillong's main market. Dinner is on your own.
Day trip to Mawlynnong and the Umngot river at Dawki — After an early breakfast, drive to Mawlynnong (about 85 km, 2.5–3 hours), a Khasi village known for keeping its lanes clean, and walk to the nearby Riwai living root bridge (village entry and parking fees are paid locally). Continue to Dawki (about 30 km), where the Umngot river is clear enough in winter to see the riverbed; your boat ride here is included. Water is clearest from November to…
Shillong sightseeing · Drive to Cherrapunji — In the morning, visit Shillong Peak for a view over the city (it is inside an Air Force area, so carry photo ID; it sometimes closes at short notice) and Elephant Falls (entry paid locally). Then drive to Cherrapunji (about 55 km, 1.5–2 hours) across the plateau. In the afternoon, see Nohkalikai Falls, one of India's tallest plunge waterfalls, and walk through the Mawsmai limestone cave (entry…
Cherrapunji · Optional Nongriat root bridge trek or easy viewpoints — If you are fit, take the optional trek from Tyrna village to the double-decker living root bridge at Nongriat: about 3,000 steep steps down and the same back up, taking 5–6 hours in total (a local guide is optional and paid locally). The bridge is made of the living roots of rubber fig trees that Khasi villagers have trained across the stream over many decades. If you prefer an easier day, your…
Cherrapunji to Guwahati · Departure — After breakfast, drive to Guwahati (about 150 km, 4.5–5 hours) and we drop you at the airport or railway station. If your flight is in the evening, you can stop at Kamakhya Temple on the way; general darshan queues are often long, and any special-entry ticket is bought at the temple at your own cost. Please book flights departing after 4 pm.

Good to know
Cherrapunji is one of the wettest places on earth. Carry an umbrella or raincoat and shoes with good grip in every season.
The Nongriat trek is steep, with about 3,000 steps each way. It is not suitable for people with knee, heart or breathing problems; the viewpoint day is a good alternative.
Dawki's water is clearest from November to April. In June–September the river is often muddy and boating can be stopped by the district administration.
Shillong and Sohra are cool in winter (often 5–15 °C from December to February). Pack a warm jacket.
Mobile data is patchy around Dawki and Mawlynnong. Keep cash for village entry fees, parking and boat tips.
Many shops and restaurants in Meghalaya close early on Sundays; plan your shopping for Saturday.
Questions travellers ask
Is the Dawki boat ride included?
Yes, one boat ride on the Umngot river at Dawki is included for your group. If the boats are not running because of heavy rain or high water, we refund the boat cost.
Can elderly parents do this trip?
Yes. Most sightseeing is close to the road, and the root bridge trek is optional. The Mawlynnong and Dawki day is long (10–11 hours), so we take breaks along the way.
Do we need a permit for Meghalaya?
No permit is needed for Indian citizens. Carry photo ID for every traveller, because hotels and some viewpoints check it.
Can we get vegetarian food?
Yes. Shillong has many North and South Indian vegetarian restaurants. In Cherrapunji the choice is smaller, but hotels serve vegetarian meals if you ask in advance.
Does the price include flights?
No. The package starts and ends at Guwahati. We can book flights from Vijayawada or Hyderabad separately and send you a combined quote.
