Day-by-day itinerary
Arrive Bagdogra or NJP · Drive to Gangtok — Our driver meets you at Bagdogra airport or New Jalpaiguri (NJP) railway station and drives you to Gangtok (about 125 km, 4.5–5 hours) along the Teesta river. The road enters Sikkim at Rangpo, where IDs may be checked. Check in at your hotel and, if you are not tired, take an evening walk on MG Marg, the car-free main street. Dinner is on your own.
Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir · Optional Nathu La — After breakfast, drive to Tsomgo Lake (about 40 km, 2–2.5 hours each way), a glacial lake at about 3,750 m, in a Gangtok-registered vehicle with the protected-area permit we arrange (send us clear photo IDs and passport photos at least 2 days before). Continue to Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir, a memorial to an Indian Army soldier. Indian citizens can add Nathu La on the India–China border; it…
Gangtok sightseeing · Monasteries and viewpoints — Spend the day seeing Gangtok with your car. Visit Enchey Monastery, the Do Drul Chorten stupa and the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, which holds old Buddhist manuscripts and icons (it usually closes on Sundays and some holidays, so check before going; entry paid locally). In the afternoon, see Banjhakri Falls, the Ganesh Tok and Tashi viewpoints and the flower exhibition centre. The Gangtok…
Gangtok to Pelling via Ravangla — After breakfast, drive to Pelling in West Sikkim (about 130 km, 5–6 hours on winding hill roads). On the way, stop at Buddha Park in Ravangla, with its 40 m Buddha statue (entry paid locally), and the Temi tea garden if time allows. Check in at Pelling by evening; on clear days the Kanchenjunga range is visible from many hotels here.
Pelling sightseeing · Pemayangtse and Rabdentse — Wake early for sunrise over Kanchenjunga if the sky is clear. After breakfast, visit Pemayangtse Monastery, one of the oldest in Sikkim (founded around 1705), and walk through the forest to the Rabdentse ruins, the capital of the Sikkim kingdom from 1670 to 1814 (entry fees paid locally). Then see the Pelling Skywalk and the Chenrezig statue, Kanchenjunga Falls and Khecheopalri Lake, which is…
Pelling to Bagdogra or NJP · Departure — After breakfast, drive to Bagdogra airport or NJP station (about 135 km, 5–6 hours) via Jorethang and Melli. Please book flights or trains departing after 3 pm, because hill roads can be slow. We drop you at the airport or station.

Good to know
Tsomgo Lake is at about 3,750 m, and Nathu La at about 4,300 m. Walk slowly, drink water and avoid the trip if anyone has serious heart or breathing problems; ask your doctor first.
Pack warm layers. Gangtok and Pelling are cool most of the year, and Tsomgo can be below freezing from December to March.
Sikkim's local taxi rules mean Tsomgo and Nathu La trips must use Gangtok-registered vehicles with permits. Your own car waits in Gangtok that day.
Plastic water bottles and some plastic items are restricted in parts of Sikkim. Carry a reusable bottle.
Kanchenjunga is often hidden by cloud. Clear views are most likely from October to December and in early mornings.
Mobile networks work in Gangtok and Pelling but are weak near Tsomgo. Carry some cash for entry fees and snacks.
Questions travellers ask
Is Nathu La included?
No. Nathu La is optional for Indian citizens only. It needs a separate permit and a dedicated vehicle, it usually opens only on some days of the week, and it can close for weather or security reasons. We apply for it if you ask, and the extra cost is paid separately.
What documents are needed for Tsomgo Lake?
Send us a clear photo ID and a passport-size photo for every traveller, children included, at least 2 days before you reach Gangtok. We apply for the permit through the local taxi operator.
Can we see snow on this trip?
Snow is likely around Tsomgo from about December to March, and sometimes in April. In other months the lake is usually snow-free, though peaks around it may still have snow.
Is this trip suitable for small children and elderly parents?
Yes, with care. Most sightseeing is by car with short walks, but the drives are 4–6 hours on hill roads and Tsomgo is at high altitude. Keep children warm and consult a doctor for anyone with health conditions.
Can we add Darjeeling?
Yes. Adding two nights in Darjeeling makes it an 8-day trip; ask us for our Sikkim and Darjeeling package.
