You stay three nights in Ooty, see the Botanical Garden, Doddabetta Peak and Pykara, and spend a day in Coonoor among the tea estates, with the option of riding the UNESCO-listed Nilgiri Mountain Railway. Day-by-day itinerary
Arrive Coimbatore · drive up to Ooty — Our driver meets you at Coimbatore airport or railway station for the drive to Ooty (about 90 km, 3–3.5 hours via Mettupalayam and the Nilgiri ghat road with its hairpin bends). Check in and rest. In the evening, take a walk around Charing Cross and the market, known for homemade chocolates and Nilgiri tea. Ooty is at about 2,240 m, so the evenings are cold.
Ooty sightseeing · Botanical Garden, Doddabetta and Pykara — After breakfast, visit the Government Botanical Garden, laid out in 1848, and the Rose Garden (entry paid locally). Drive up to Doddabetta Peak (about 2,637 m), the highest point in the Nilgiris, and stop at a tea factory to see how Nilgiri tea is processed. Coonoor day trip · optional toy train — Spend the day in Coonoor, about 19 km from Ooty. If you have tickets, ride the Nilgiri Mountain Railway toy train from Ooty to Coonoor (about 1 hour 15 minutes), and the car meets you at Coonoor station; the railway is part of the UNESCO-listed Mountain Railways of India. Ooty to Coimbatore · departure — After breakfast, check out and drive down to Coimbatore (about 90 km, 3–3.5 hours) for your flight or train. You can buy Nilgiri tea, eucalyptus oil and homemade chocolates in Ooty before leaving. A flight or train after about 2 pm is comfortable.

No visa needed. Carry a government photo ID (Aadhaar, passport, driving licence or voter ID) for every traveller, because hotels ask for it at check-in.
Good to know
Ooty nights are cold all year and can fall below 5 °C in December–February. Pack woollens.
Vehicles entering Ooty currently need an e-pass; we arrange it for our car.
Toy train seats open on IRCTC well ahead and sell out fast in season and on weekends.
April–May and long weekends bring heavy traffic in Ooty and higher hotel rates.
The ghat road has 36 hairpin bends. Carry motion-sickness tablets if needed.
Questions travellers ask
Can we ride the toy train all the way from Mettupalayam?
Yes, if you get tickets. The Mettupalayam–Ooty run takes about 5 hours uphill; our car can carry your luggage and meet you at Ooty. Tell us early so we can plan Day 1 around it.
Is it too cold for small children?
No, but pack warm clothes, caps and socks for evenings. Days are usually pleasant.
Can we stay in Coonoor instead?
Yes. Coonoor is quieter; we can split the stay as Ooty 2N and Coonoor 1N at a similar price.
Does the price include flights?
No. The trip starts and ends in Coimbatore. We can quote flights or trains from Vijayawada or Hyderabad separately.
