The drive to your hotel near the Old Quarter takes about 45 minutes. Check-in is usually from 2 pm. In the evening, walk around Hoan Kiem Lake to Ngoc Son Temple and through the Old Quarter's busy streets. A water puppet show (about 50 minutes) is an optional extra. Drive to Ha Long · Board your cruise · Cave visit — After breakfast, the cruise shuttle or your vehicle picks you up at about 8 am for the drive of about 2.5 hours on the expressway to the harbour. Board around noon, check in to your cabin and have lunch as the boat sails out among the limestone islands. In the afternoon, visit one of the bay's large caves, such as Sung Sot (about 100 steps up), and swim or climb the viewpoint on a small island…
Full day on the bay · Kayaking and a floating village — Start with sunrise tai chi on the sundeck, followed by breakfast. Most 2-night cruises then take you by smaller day boat into a quieter part of the bay, such as Lan Ha Bay or Bai Tu Long Bay. You kayak through lagoons and under rock arches with the crew; life jackets are provided, and you can stay on the boat or take a bamboo boat if you prefer not to paddle. The day also includes a floating…
Morning on the bay · Return to Hanoi — Enjoy an early cave or beach visit or a last coffee on deck while the boat sails back. Check out of your cabin around 9:30 am and have brunch on board before you disembark at about 10:30–11 am. Drive about 2.5 hours back to Hanoi, arriving mid-afternoon. In the late afternoon, take a short guided visit to the Temple of Literature, Vietnam's first university, and finish with coffee by the lake or…
Departure from Hanoi — The morning is free until checkout, usually at 12 noon. Visa & entry
Indian passport holders need a visa for Vietnam. The easiest option is the e-visa, applied for online only on the official portal evisa.gov.vn. It costs USD 25 for single entry or USD 50 for multiple entry, is valid for up to 90 days, and usually takes 3–5 working days, longer in peak periods. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from arrival with 2 blank pages, and the name, passport number and date of birth on the e-visa must exactly match your passport. Print the approved e-visa and carry it with your return ticket and hotel bookings. Avoid unofficial look-alike websites that charge extra.
Good to know
Cruises need your passport details in advance to register guests with the harbour authority. Send us a clear passport copy when you book.
Ha Long Bay sailings can be cancelled or shortened by the authorities in storms, mostly from June to October. If this happens, the cruise operator changes the route or offers a refund or new date under its policy.
Tell us at booking if you need vegetarian or Jain meals. Cruises cook to order and can serve vegetarian food if they know in advance.
Currency is the Vietnamese dong (VND). Carry US dollars and some VND in cash; drinks and tips on the cruise can usually be paid by card or in US dollars.
Pack light: soft bag, swimwear, sandals that can get wet, sunscreen, a hat and a light jacket for evenings on deck from November to March.
Power sockets take two-pin plugs (Type A/C, 220V), and most Indian two-pin plugs fit.
Questions travellers ask
Is vegetarian food available on the cruise?
Yes, if requested in advance. We pass your vegetarian or Jain requirement to the cruise when booking, and they prepare separate dishes. In Hanoi, there are several Indian and vegetarian restaurants near the Old Quarter.
Is kayaking safe for non-swimmers and seniors?
Kayaking is done in calm lagoons with life jackets and crew nearby. Anyone uncomfortable can stay on the boat or take the bamboo boat instead, so it is fine for seniors and families.
Do people get seasick on Ha Long Bay?
Rarely. The bay is sheltered by thousands of islands, and the water is usually calm. If you are sensitive, carry motion-sickness tablets.
Do Indians need a visa for Vietnam?
Yes. Apply for the e-visa online at evisa.gov.vn, which costs USD 25 for single entry and usually takes 3–5 working days. We can help you fill in the form correctly.
Are flights included?
No, the price is for the land and cruise package. We quote flights to Hanoi separately. From Hyderabad or Vijayawada you usually connect via another Indian city or a hub in Southeast Asia.
